My junior recital opened with a high-energy, feel-good cover of “Killing Me Softly” (Fugees version). From the first beat, the performance set an exciting tone, bold, rhythmic, and full of attitude. The groove-driven arrangement let me lean into the song’s effortless cool, blending smooth vocals with the signature hip-hop pulse that makes the Fugees’ rendition so iconic. It was a fun, electric start to the night and immediately pulled the audience into the energy I wanted to create for the entire recital.
